Six burn to death in head-on collision a day after the Easter Arrive Alive launch
Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Makoma Makhurupetje has once again called on motorists to adhere to the rules of the road following this tragic accident
LIMPOPO – A day after Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Makoma Makhurupetje launched the Easter Weekend Arrive Alive programme, Limpopo roads claimed yet another six lives during a head-on collision between a Hyundai LMV and a Ford Ranger LDV in the Sekukhune district on Sunday.
In a statement released, spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala says the accident happened at around 03:00 on the D4100, between Magatle and Mamphokgo village, after one of vehicles veered into the oncoming lane and collided with the other.

“Both vehicles immediately caught fire and six people including both drivers were burned beyond recognition. Another four people sustained critical injuries and were taken to the Matlala Hospital for treatment.”
Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Makoma Makhurupetje has since extended her condolences to the families of deceased and has further wished a speedy recovery to four passengers who sustained injuries during the accident.

He added that although police are still to give a final report about the cause of the accident, the department continues to insist that motorists should always drive within the required speed limit – whether during the day or night. “The coming few days in Limpopo would be so busy and challenging, and I wish to reiterate our message that motorists need to adhere to the rules of the road even when there are no traffic officers to watch over them. Let us guard against speeding and fatigue as chances of one losing control of one’s vehicle are mostly higher when we are either tired or speeding,” ” added MEC Makhurupetje.
