[UPDATE] Mokopane baby snatcher (17) denied bail

The case against the 23-year-old boyfriend was withdrawn pending further police investigation

MOKOPANE – The 17-year-old accused appeared before the the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of child stealing and was denied bail and the case postponed to 23 April for bail application.

In a statement released, Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the case against the 23-year-old boyfriend was withdrawn pending further police investigation.

The young couple were arrested on Saturday at Ga-mphela Village outside Polokwane during a sting joint operation led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for the Crime Detection, Major General Samuel Manala. The baby was found in their possession unharmed.

This Provincial intervention follows the search operation by the Police in Mokopane for a woman who stole a six-week-old baby boy outside a Shoprite centre in Mokopane on 28 March.

Police investigations are still continuing.
