LIMPOPO – Seven suspects have been arrested during intelligence-led joint operations conducted in the Thohoyandou and Jane Furse Policing areas.
“The persistent efforts to root-out any form of criminality, have once again resulted in the arrest of seven suspects, aged between 30 and 35,” confirmed Police spokesperson, Col Ngoepe in a statement on Tuesday.
These arrests emanated for two separate incidents in the said areas…
Is the first incident, a 49-year-old bakery truck driver was accosted and robbed by three unknown suspects traveling in a Nissan Hardbody in the Thohoyandou Policing area. “The police were informed and immediately followed the suspects were cornered in the Thohoyandou CBD and arrested.”
During the arrest, the police recovered two firearms, two magazines, fourteen rounds of live ammunition, a Nissan Hardbody bakkie, cell phones and house breaking equipment was recovered.
Meanwhile in the Jane Furse Policing area, the police arrested four suspects following a business robbery which occurred on in August last year. “It is alleged that on the afternoon of 30 August 2018, the suspects robbed a 33-year-old man at gunpoint and fled the scene with cellphones and an unknown amount of money.”
During the arrest, three firearms and ammunition were recovered.
Ngoepe added that these four suspects have also been positively linked to other trio crimes and armed robberies allegedly committed in the Sekhukhune, Mecklenburg, Burgersfort and Tubatse Policing areas.
“The origin of all the recovered items will still be determined by the ongoing police investigations. The arrested suspects will appear before the Jane Furse and Thohoyandou Magistrate Courts soon,” Ngoepe concluded.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba commended the Police for their continuous dedication in their duties as they always ensure safety within the communities.
