#EasterTraffic – Eight people die in five separate accidents on Limpopo’s roads
Causes of the accidents include reckless driving, speed and overtaking on a barrier line.
LIMPOPO – The Easter weekend has claimed eight people’s lives so far during five separate accidents on Limpopo’s roads.
Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Taueatsoala says all five accidents occurred on Friday night, 19 April in the Sekhukhune, Mopani and Capricorn Districts.

The first incident occurred on the R518 near Specon in the Capricorn District when a 40-year-old man was knocked over by a motorist.
Meanwhile, a 37-year-old male driver was killed near the Bismarck village in the Mopani district when his speeding Ford vehicle lost control and hit the tree.
Taueatsoala added that two passengers were critically injured during the accident and that the cause was speeding. The patients were taken to the Sekororo Hospital for treatment.
On the R579 near Mosterloos in the Sekhukhune district, two people were killed when a Mazda 323 collided head-on with an on-coming Isuzu bakkie. One passenger was seriously injured while four people were slightly injured. Taueatsoala says the cause of this accident was reckless driving.
Furthermore, three people were killed on the R81 near Giyani when a VW sedan overtook on a barrier line and collided head-on with an on-coming bakkie. One person was seriously injured while two other people were critically injured and taken to hospital to receive treatment.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, 20 April, one person was killed and two others slightly injured in a four-car pile-up on the R518 in the Capricorn District. The cause of the accident was reckless driving and speeding.
The accidents come a day after the MEC for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, Makoma Makhurupetje urged motorists to exercise patience and to drive according to the speed limit.
While traffic volumes are still high, they have decreased slightly and the Department is still encouraging motorists to arrive alive.
