Two dead in fiery crash on R71 near Haenertsburg
Two people were killed, and five injured in a head-on collision between two light delivery vehicles on Thursday evening on the R71 near Haenertsburg.
LIMPOPO – According to Traffic Policing Affairs Limpopo the accident happened at around 23:45 between two light delivery vehicles (LDV).
“The Opel Corsa caught fire and the driver and the passenger died on the scene. A further five people including the driver of the Nissan LDV sustained serious injuries,” reads a post on the Traffic Policing Affairs Limpopo Facebook page.
The exact cause of the collision will form part of a police investigation.
This comes a few hours after Transport Minister Blade Nzimande, briefed the media on the preliminary Easter road safety report, confirming that fatalities and road accident numbers decreased significantly over the Easter period, from April 18 to 22, when compared to 2018. ““All provinces recorded decreases in the number of fatalities. The highest decrease in absolute figures was recorded by Limpopo with 41 fatalities, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 33 fatalities,” Nzimande said.
