27 illegal immigrants among 789 suspects arrested during joint Limpopo police operations

During these operations, 672 roadblocks and stop and searches were conducted, 129 motor vehicle searched, 1 506 persons searched, 15 motor vehicles tested, liquor outlets and illegal businesses raided as well as the tracing of wanted suspects

LIMPOPO – Intelligence driven, joint operations by various units within the Limpopo police force continue to produce good results with the arrest of 789 suspects, including 27 illegal immigrants, says police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The suspects were arrested for offenses ranging from assault, public drinking, rape, burglary, armed robberies, murder, drunk driving, selling liquor without a license, contravention of the Illegal Immigration Act, possession of suspected stolen properties, possession of drugs and possession of firearms and ammunition without a license.

“These operations were up and running until this morning, 3 June 2019, targeting all crime infested areas in the province. During these operations, 672 roadblocks and stop and searches were conducted, 129 motor vehicle searched, 1 506 persons searched, 15 motor vehicles tested, liquor outlets and illegal businesses raided as well as the tracing of wanted suspects,” he said.

In addition, fines issued amounting to R23 500 were issued to drivers for contravention of the Road Traffic Act.

In the Mookgopong policing area, under the Modimolle Cluster, five suspects were arrested for house robbery and one firearm was recovered. Ngoepe added that these suspects are from Gauteng and may be linked to a number of similar cases in and around Limpopo.

During the operations, the following items were recovered:

– 12 motor vehicles, of which one of them was reported stolen in Gauteng.
– 11 cellphones.
– 30 sachets of dagga
– 20 nyaope balls
– Household and miscellaneous items
– 12 firearms and ammunition
– Laptops, cigarettes and knives
– Liquor

“All arrested suspects have already began appearing before different Magistrate Courts throughout the province,” Ngoepe concluded.

Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has expressed his delight regarding the sterling performance by those involved in the various operations.
