[VIDEO] No arrests made following Thohoyanou mosque robbery

Prayer services were interrupted on Tuesday night when four armed suspects robbed worshipers of money before fleeing the scene.

LIMPOPO – Police in Thohoyandou have launched a manhunt for four unknown suspects involved in an armed robbery at a mosque in Thohoyandou Block F on Tuesday evening, 4 June.

Worshipers were gathering for the final prayers of Ramadan before celebrating Eid on Wednesday, 5 June.

In a statement released, police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe says a 39-year-old man and his brother were in their vehicle, outside the mosque intended to attend prayers when they were surprised by four unknown suspects.

“The suspects aimed the firearm at them and robbed them of cash before fleeing the scene with an unidentified motor vehicle. No arrests have been made as yet as the suspects are still unknown,” Ngoepe added.

Reports suggest that shots were fired, however, Ngoepe did not confirm whether or not this was true.
