Father of boy who drove into fellow learners, arrested and will also face charges

The 18-year-old boy and his father (54) have been arrested and are expected to appear in the Bolobedu Magisrate's Court this morning, 13 June.

LIMPOPO – The father of an 18-year-old learner who rammed into a group of pupils waiting to seat for exams, killing one and leaving nine others injured, has been arrested and will appear in the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court, this morning, 13 June.

The man is expected to face a charge of permitting a person to drive a motor vehicle knowing he does not have a valid drivers license.

This, after the man’s son allegedly lost control of the Nissan bakkie and rammed into nine fellow pupils outside Mothlatlego Machaba Secondary School in Ga-Motupa, Bolobedu, outside Tzaneen on Tuesday, 4 June.

Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, in a statement, confirmed that emergency services were called and the learners were taken to the local hospital but that 14-year-old, Koketso Raholane, died on arrival.

“The others are still recuperating from serious injuries at their homes. The 18-year-old suspect will be facing charges of culpable homicide, driving an un-roadworthy motor vehicle and driving a motor vehicle without a valid drivers license,” Ngoepe’s statement concluded.
