A warm welcome home for the Mosena family

Afribiz Invest, in collaboration with the Collen Mashawana Foundation, handed over a renovated house to the Mosena family on 28 June in Seshego.

POLOKWANE – Afribiz Invest, in collaboration with the Collen Mashawana Foundation, handed over a renovated house to the Mosena family on 28 June in Seshego.

The family’s house was destroyed in a fire on 7 June, as a result of an electrical fault. One of the neighbours contacted Afribiz Invest requesting them to assist the family, who since the fire, had to separate and find alternative accommodation because their home was uninhabitable.

The family of four children, aged between 10 and 25 years, were grateful to once again have a home for them to occupy. The scope of work that went into repairing the home included a new roof and ceiling, replacing and rewiring of the electrical wiring system, tiling, new windows, doors and repainting.

Also lending a hand was Insig Consultancy who donated cupboards, and Raisibe Construction who donated beds. Kunene Makopo Insurance donated house cover insurance and R10 000 funeral cover to the family.

“The Collen Mashawana Foundation is a non-profit organisation that focuses on the upliftment of the young, elderly and unemployed. We go around the country identifying elderly people who are disadvantaged, disabled, homeless and child-headed families who either don’t have houses or are staying in dilapidated structures. We have partnered with Afribiz Invest to build homes for those families,” explained Collen Mashawana, Chairperson of AfriBiz Invest and founder of the Collen Mashawana Foundation.

The MMC for Housing at the Polokwane Municipality, Tshepo Nkwe said what happened to the family was devastatingw. He said he was grateful for the private companies that stepped up to help the family.

“We wish the partnership will continue with other families in need as well. We also thank the community, volunteers, ward committee and the ANC for assisting,” he said. The family lost their mother in 2012 and they were taken care of by their grandmother. Molebogeng Mosena, the second born of the family explained that the fire had destroyed their home.

Fortunately, he said, no one was at home at the time, but by the time they arrived after receiving the news, there was nothing they could do to salvage it.

“I feel so grateful. It felt like a dream. It’s by the grace of God, because this doesn’t just happen. I am going to sleep well tonight. The councillor has been so kind, she has been checking on us, she bought us groceries the same day that the house burned down, we are eternally grateful,” she said. She thanked all the entities that helped make the handover possible.
