KidTeachKid, the best way to learn in Polokwane
KidTeachKid (KTK) is an initiative which was started by Gr 12 learners who wanted to better their chances in the end year exams.
POLOKWANE – What started out as just a group of learners coming together a few months ago, has snowballed into extra classes for other learners who are interested in the classes, despite where they school.
Bongani Masemola, Khumo Masemola, Manamela Letsau, Fortune Monama, Mpho Raphala, Precious Ledwaba and Morifi Kaith are learners from different schools around Polokwane, who realised the importance of coming together to help each other with the subjects that are not their strong points. They have been presenting the classes for a couple of months and it has proved to be a success with their peers.
Making use of Millenium College as their base, they meet on Sunday afternoons to brush up on trouble areas within the different subjects. Within the group, they have tutors for all the subjects and what sets their programme apart is that they don’t teach, but rather discuss the difficult subject areas and the various methods available to them to make it easier for them. We decided on the name Kid Teach Kid because it explains what we do in the most simplest of terms. It tells our story, a kid teaching another kid and we are all learning as a result,” explained Manamela Letsau who tutors mathematics.
They hope to grow bigger and help many more kids. They also hope that it becomes well established so that even after they complete matric, the programme will still be sustainable with more kids teaching other kids. Their biggest dream however, is to receive funding which will help with the buying of the materials they need to make the sessions productive, like chalk and study material.
