Discovery of woman’s body leads police to another gruesome find

The Westenburg Police are investigating a murder and have opened an inquest, following the discovery of a woman's body hanging from a tree in Greenside, Extension 44 at around 06:00 on Friday morning.

POLOKWANE – In a statement, Police Spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngeopes says the police received calls from residents who made the discovery  and arrived on the scene to find the body of a woman, believed to be in her thirties, hanging from a tree. Medical services personnel were also on the scene.

Initial investigations led to the discovery of the body of the deceased’s three-month-old daughter, inside their shack. It is not clear at this stage what was the cause of the child’s death, but it is suspected she might have been strangled, Ngoepe adds.

The identity of the deceased will only be released once the next of kin have been notified, he says.

Police investigations still continue.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has denounced the continuous incidents of domestic related murders.
