Mokopane shooting victim an ANC councillor
The victims were apparently seated in a vehicle when the gunman approached and, at point-blank, immediately started firing shots at them.

MOKOPANE – The Mokopane shooting victims have been identified as 54-year-old councillor Valtyn Kekana and 32-year-old Ralph Kanyane.
Bosveld earlier reported from the scene in Pretorius Street where the two were gunned down at 13:45. Both men died on the scene.
In the meantime, the Mookgophong-Modimolle Mayor, Marlene van Staden, sent her condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

MOKOPANE – Mokopane police said that a high level investigating team has been assembled to solve the murder of two men at around 13:45 today. Bosveld was on the scene in Pretorius street shortly after the incident happened.

In a statement, Sgt Irene Masingi, spokesperson of the Mokopane police, said that the deceased are known but their identities will only be made known after the next-of-kin have been notified. A source close to the Mogalakwena Municipality, who wants to remain anonymous for safety reasons, told Bosveld that one of the victims is an ANC councillor.
Malesela Selokela, Divisional Head: Communication at Mogalakwena, confirmed that a councillor was killed.
The statement reads: “The victims were apparently seated in a vehicle when the gunman approached and, at point-blank, immediately started firing shots at them. They both died at the scene. The suspect is believed to have fled on foot following the incident. The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lt Gnl Nneke Ledwaba has instructed that the assailant(s) must be hunted down and brought to book.”
The motive behind the incident is currently unknown and cases of murder have been opened.
