Cops fatally shoot one member of trio syndicate in Malamulele

The group robbed a local shop owner in the early hours of this morning

LIMPOPO – In Malamulele the police early this morning intercepted a trio crime syndicate soon after they robbed a local general dealer shop owner  at Halahala village.

During the incident, three suspects held the victim at gunpoint and robbed him of his car, cash, cigarettes and airtime, said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe in a statement on Sunday.

The police were notified and traced them until the stolen vehicle was spotted parked outside a tavern in Mapapila village.

The police waited at the vehicle and within a short space of time, the suspects opened fire at them. The police retaliated and during the incident one suspect was fatally wounded, while the other two evaded arrest by disappearing into the night.

Preliminary police investigations at the scene led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle, one 9mm firearm with 14 rounds of ammunition and the robbed items including an undisclosed amount of money.

Ngoepe added that the police are still in the process of identifying the decease and a manhunt for the remaining suspects was launched.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has commended the members on their successes during the fight against the scourge of  crimes in their area. He further warned that criminals will be dealt with harshly and without compromise.
