Burger King® in Polokwane and Thohoyandou to remain Halaal

This, after the fast-food giant announced that a selected number of restaurants across South Africa would no longer be Halaal-certified

POLOKWANE – Burger King® at Mall of the North and Thavani Mall are two of 52 restaurants in South Africa that will remain Halaal-Certified as from 1 September 2019.

As part of a research programme conducted by Burger King® and Halaal certifying body, SHURA, both outlets were identified as restaurants to remain Halaal certified as there are no other restaurants nearby to convert and to ensure no offence to Burger King’s® Muslim customers.

The change in status is as a result of a selected number of restaurants to now offer non-Halaal products. In a statement released by Burger King® South Africa, the decision was driven by consumer demand for non-Halaal products.

The change will see 44 converted restaurants in areas where a Halaal restaurant is already located nearby to conveniently serve both customers.

All Burger King® restaurants in KZN will remain 100% Halaal and Gauteng will see the highest number of changes, while the Western Cape will see the smallest number of changes.

In addition, Burger King® says they are also exploring including more vegetarian options to their menu to ensure they incorporate all meal preferences in its mission to be a restaurant for everyone.
