Polokwane caddie to represent Limpopo at National Finals
Sakia Makhafola, a caddie at Polokwane Golf Club since 1986, will represent Limpopo at the national Champion of Champions finals.
POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Golf Club has congratulated Sakia Makhafola from Polokwane who is the Limpopo Golf Union Champion of Champions Regional Finals 2026 winner under the Caddie division.
To qualify to represent Limpopo, Makhafola took part in the Limpopo Golf Union Champion of Champions Regional Finals 2026 which was hosted at the Thabazimbi Golf Club on August 22.
Playing under the Caddie division, Makhafola scored a nett of 77 and a gross of 85 to win the division.
Makhafola, alongside another young golfer from Polokwane, will represent the province at the Golf RSA Champion of Champions National Final which is set to take place from September 20 to 23 at the Nick Price-designed Vaal de Grace Golf Estate in the Free State.
Originally from Seshego Zone 1, Makhafola has been working with the Polokwane Golf Club since 1986 as a caddie.
“While working as a caddie for all these years, carrying around the golfers’ bags around the golf course, on weekends, I would meet up with the other caddies and we would play and put our skills to practice,” Makhafola said.
He added that those weekend practices helped him a lot in sharpening his golf skills.
“As a proud self-taught golfer from watching professional golfers play, I officially started playing four years back till-to-date. I’m happy and mostly proud that I’ll now be representing my province and club as a player,” he said.
Makhafola expressed he has high hopes that he will place the province on the map in the finals.
In preparation for a successful performance at the finals, Makhafola is requesting assistance from anyone who can help sponsor him with golf shoes (size 6), as well as golf balls, to complete his golf set for the finals, as he has already sorted out other necessities for the event.
