Louis Trichardt businesses give back to local learners
Most young girls who cannot afford sanitary pads, are forced to miss school days when they have their periods.
LIMPOPO – In an effort to reduce school absenteeism due to menstruation and to give the underprivileged girls dignity, Standard Bank Louis Trichardt, Clicks Louis Trichardt, Quality Care Hospital Louis Trichardt, and Simango Grill, donated sanitary pads to more than 100 girls from Tshikota High School last Monday.
Standard Bank Louis Trichardt’s Branch Manager, Stanley Sadiki, said that the purpose of the donation is to give back to the communities in which they serve. “Donating these sanitary pads to the pupils is a good way of giving back to them. They really support our businesses. It hurts to hear that some girls still miss school because they do not have sanitary pads. We are happy that the donation will last them for up to four months,” Sadiki said.
Sadiki told the pupils not to fall pregnant because it will have a negative impact on their studies. “You should know where you come from. Some of you come from poor backgrounds and your families are looking up to you to end poverty. Falling pregnant might force you to drop out and you will not be able to achieve your dreams. Focus on your education as it is very important,” Sadiki said.
He encouraged them to abstain from sex. “You are still young to engage in sex.
Abstain from sex so that you do not get infected with sexually- transmitted infections,” he added.
A teacher at Tshikota High School, Norah Sathekge, said that they are grateful for what these various businesses have done for the learners. “This donation will go a long way in helping the girls focus on their studies. We encourage other businesses to emulate them,” Sathekge concluded.
