Hawks seize R94 000 worth of counterfeit DVDs, arrest 2 in Polokwane

The suspects faces charges ranging from trading without a certificate to selling pornographic material without a licence

POLOKWANE – Two suspects were arrested in the central business district (CBD) this morning during an operation between the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit, SAPS Polokwane and the Film and Publication Board.

In a statement, Hawks Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke says the unit ruffled the feathers of a few counterfeit dealers during an operation that was aimed at seizing counterfeit goods.

During the operation DVDs worth over R94 000 were seized.

Both suspects, aged 32 and 39, are expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 23 August to face charges of contravention of films and publications Act 65 of 1996(1) (3) (5), trading without a certificate, selling pornographic material without a licence and failing to display age restriction signs.
