Digital education at Hoërskool Louis Trichardt gets a boost

The Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Pinky Kekana recently handed over 120 tablets to the learners

LIMPOPO – The Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Pinky Kekana says the use of technological and digital innovation in education is important and should be supported.

Speaking during the handover of 120 tablets at Hoërskool Louis Trichardt last Friday, Kekana said once they start to digitise some of the educational programmes, it will become easier for the learners to learn and understand. “In some provinces learners are using e-textbooks. They no longer carry heavy school bags filled with textbooks. We want smart learning in a smart classroom. Limpopo Connect will integrate the learners’ textbooks into e-textbooks because e-learning is a smarter way for learners to learn.”

Kekana further said: “The tablets are for the school not the teachers. You must protect the tablets and make sure that they are not stolen. We are really impressed with your school’s seriousness about education. Keep up the good work and respect your teachers. You are the leaders of tomorrow,” she said.

Thulani Ngesi from BUA Africa said they are happy to have donated tablets to the learners. “We will also donate tablets to other schools because we want to touch as many lives as possible. We want young people to access education in an easy and sophisticated way. E-learning materials will be uploaded onto your tablets. I wish you good luck in the upcoming exams.”

Hoërskool Louis Trichardt Principal Louis Cilliers.

Hoërskool Louis Trichardt Principal, Louis Cilliers, said they really appreciate the interest shown by the deputy minister. “These tablets will help our learners to be well equipped for the future. Words cannot begin to show how much we appreciate your contribution. “We are part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and we need to adapt and equip ourselves to be able to fully participate and engage in the opportunities ahead of us. As a school, we are humbled and grateful for your support. We thank you for having our learners’ best interest at heart.”

On behalf of the learners, Calvin Lee, said: “We really appreciate this investment and we will make use of the digital services to enhance our education. We’ll use the tablets effectively to equip ourselves for the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” she concluded.
