Scopa Chairperson, Goodman, believes in uplifting others
Goodman Mitileni became a full-time member of the Limpopo Legislature in 2014 and in that time obtained a certificate in governance and public leadership.
POLOKWANE – Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) Chairperson Goodman Mitileni, believes uplifting people is tantamount to any work being done.
A believer that leaders are not born but produced by experience, Mitileni is a qualified teacher who majored in mathematics and physical science before wearing all the many hats that he wears today. He went into teaching for five years, but opted to pursue other avenues.

His political history started when, as a Gr 12 learner, he served in the ANC Youth League as branch secretary from 1993 to 1994. He has not looked back since, having occupied positions in the ANCYL and ANC. He reminisces about his time as a youth development officer in Mopani District Municipality.
“When the South African Youth Council started establishing their structures at a lower level, other than at province and national, the first structure in the province was established in Giyani. It was called the Greater Giyani Local Youth Council.”
Mitileni also served as the secretary of the ANCYL in the sub-region of Giyani from 2001 to 2003 and during his work at the municipality, a union had to be established for municipal workers. He was elected as the chairperson of the South African Municipal Workers Union in this municipality, from where he later served as regional and eventually, as provincial chairperson.
“This gave me exposure to the challenges of workers, particularly in the municipal sector,” he said. Goodman was also elected as the first regional secretary of the ANCYL in the region.
“A date I will not easily forget is 5 December 2005. I was elected into two provincial structures in one day, which is the day I was elected as the provincial chairperson of Samwu and as deputy secretary of the ANCYL.”
After the ANCYL elective conference in that year, he was elected to the position of provincial secretary. In 2010, he furthered his studies earning himself a postgraduate diploma in labour law, and an advanced diploma in management with the focus on labour relations. He served as Director Labour Relations for a year before he went on to become a Special Advisor to the Premier.
Mtileni became a full-time member of the Limpopo Legislature in 2014 and in that time obtained a certificate in governance and public leadership.
He hopes to complete a diploma in the same field this year.
