Polokwane dog attack victim discharged
Fewer than two weeks after a dog attack, Ronelle Seitz (59) is back home, recuperating.
POLOKWANE – The family spokesperson, Tess Riekert, confirmed that Seitz was back at home after the most recent operation, during which doctors repaired the damage to her scalp.
Seitz was attacked by two pit bulls on Saturday, 26 October.
She stumbled and fell, and as her daughter helped her up, the dogs attacked.
Both dogs had to be put down on the scene to save Seitz’s life.
She was rushed to Pholosho Netcare Hospital where a benefactor paid for the first 36 hours of of help, as she is not a member of a medical aid fund.
Riekert subsequently raised money with the help of the non-profit organisation Back on Your Feet (Boyf).

“Ronelle received her first operation on arrival at the hospital and shortly again there after. She was last operated on Wednesday and will be again operated within 10 days. All the follow-up operations will take place more or less 10 days apart. We still need to raise a lot more money to help her. I am not even sure if the latest one was covered,” explained Riekert.

“Even though she is at home, she is still in a lot of pain and very self-conscious. Even though she is optimistic, we appeal to visitors to allow her more time to heal before visiting.”
Dr. Gerrie de Haas offered a team to provide trauma counselling to Seitz and her family to process what happened to her.
