Mob attack claims life of notorious criminal at UNIVEN

Thohoyandou Police are looking for a group of people responsible for the mob attack on a man within the University of Venda (UNIVEN) campus grounds on Friday.

LIMPOPO – The attack happened next to the student’s residence at around 01:26.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlefela Mojapelo said in a statement that the police responded to calls which came in about a person being assaulted by a group of people on campus grounds.

On arrival at the scene, the officers found the body of a man lying on the ground with an assortment of objects such as sticks and stones next to his body. He sustained multiple injuries and is believed to be in his mid-twenties.

Mojapelo said the deceased has not yet been identified and the motive for the attack is still unknown.

Yanda Mxaku, SRC Secretary-General of UNIVEN confirmed to Review that the murdered man was a known criminal which had allegedly targeted students on the campus grounds on various occasions in the past few weeks.

Mxaku added that the deceased was not a student of UNIVEN and more information will be released as soon as the university’s protection services complete their investigation.

A case of murder is being investigated and the police appeal to anyone with valuable information that can assist in the arrest of the people involved, to urgently contact Detective WO Rasilingwani Mawela at 083 364 2826 or  015 960 1000 / 1057.
