Help make Jerry’s dream take flight
Jerry Mokgothadi was recently accepted to an aviation school but a lack of funds may see his dreams take a nosedive.
POLOKWANE – Jerry, from Seshego has been accepted at EPT Aviation Training School for a cabin crew training course and needs R16 000 to cover his subjects and study materials.
“So far I’ve managed to cover transport, medical and accommodation fees so any donations would be much appreciated,” he said. The training commences on 6 January and after he successfully completes the training he will receive a certificate and licence issued by South African Civil Aviation Authority.
He explained that his mother worked at a daycare centre but had to leave due to health problems. “I come from an underprivileged background but I have never stopped dreaming,” he added.
Jerry completed matric in 2012 but couldn’t continue with his education because of a problem with his identity document and the lack of money. His ID has since been sorted but he still has the hurdle of coming up with the money to give a chance at furthering his studies and living out his dream.
He explained that he took to social media to share his plight as it is the most powerful tool he has at his disposal. “I know it’s possible I may not get assistance through social media but I acknowledge any response I receive and I will not stop reaching out more people and explore other options,” he said.
He added that he cannot give up on this dream because it is something that he has wanted to pursue since high school. “I took tourism in high school and I thought it was going to be an easy path to get into aviation school. After failing to get funds in 2014, I decided to pursue tourism at Capricorn College for TVET and started doing odd jobs in order to save up for medical tests and swimming lessons,” he said.
