Fraudster wanted by police after scamming drought-stricken farmers in Limpopo

The man has been linked to three fraud cases as well as a charge of assault.

LIMPOPO – The police are investigating a series of fraud cases where the suspect is said to have preyed on drought-stricken farmers in the Modimolle areas and parts of Gauteng between September 2011 and February 2019.

According to police reports, it is alleged the accused targeted the farmers who experienced drought on their farms and promised to sell them lucerne bales. He had requested thousands of Rand as deposit and thereafter vanished with the money according to Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo.

The same man has been linked to three fraud cases that were committed in Modimolle and Randburg as well  as a charge of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) in Modjadjiskloof.

“Police followed up on a tip-off they received from the community and he was traced to a location around Brits in the North West on Monday, 2 March. The accused managed to escape and preliminary police investigations revealed that he was last seen collecting his children from school. He has since disappeared,” Mojapelo explained.

The police has requested 32-year-old Stefanus Gerhardus (Stefan) Muller to avail himself at the nearest police station to assist them with investigations into these matters. They further urge anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect, or knows the whereabouts of Stefan, to contact Det Sgt Amanda Rossouw at 071 133 8524. Alternatively they can contact the 24-hour Crime Stop number at 086 001 0111 or their nearest police station.
