PH-athletes bring their A-game every time

Sport runs through their veins, says Latisha Valley and Mabatho Mamabolo who recently performed well during the district schools athletics meeting at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

POLOKWANE – It was the first time that both these athletes from Piet Hugo Primary School participated at this level. “It was very scary and nerve wrecking,” the girls said.

The athletes both receive medals at the circuit athletics meeting held at the University of Limpopo and they say it was a very proud moment, because not only did they make themselves and their school proud, but also their parents.

Latisha participated in the high jump for girls u/12 and Mabatho in the 70 m hurdles for girls u/11. The two athletes both took fifth position in their different items.

“Athletics is a lot of fun and I enjoy competing in high jump because of my length,” said Latisha.

Mabatho shyly laughs as explained “the fact that I can run and then fly over the hurdles are the best.”

When they are not on the field or track, Latisha and Mabatho play hockey and netball. Latisha also performs well in cricket while Mabatho enjoys playing soccer and being part of the drummy team.

“To make sure we bring our A-game every time we participate in our various sports, we make sure to practice twice a week for about an hour and a half,” the girls concluded.
