LIMPOPO – The premier and a delegation conducted a Covid-19 lockdown operation in the Lepelle Nkumpi Municipality yesterday. The operation was led by the Premier, Chupu Mathabatha, MEC’s, mayors and the Provincial Commissioner of SAPS, Nneke Ledwaba, with the aim of monitoring compliance to the rules and regulations under the Disaster Management Act and also to act against transgressors.

According to a statement by Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, Transport and Community Safety Spokesperson, police act members attached to the provincial components and provincial top management also formed part of these operations.

Moremi-Taueatsoala said the following successes were achieved:

• 24 people were charged for failing to confine themselves at their respective homes as prescribed by the Disaster Management Regulations.
• Three business owners were charged and fined for operating without permits.
• 90 minors were warned to stop roaming the streets.
• One person was arrested for selling cigarettes while 44 packets of cigarettes were seized.
• One person was arrested for smoking dagga in public.
• One shop owner was charged for producing a false operating permit.

He added that 10 liquor outlets were visited and found closed, while eight other shops were visited and found to be compliant.
