Rape charges brought against Limpopo pastor

The 43-year-old man is said to have raped two of his church members, impregnating one.

LIMPOPO – Two members of a church in Pharare village in the Tzaneen cluster have opened cases of rape against a 43-year-old pastor.

The two, aged 24 and 29, opened the cases at the Maake police station on Monday, 8 June according to a statement by Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo.

Mojapelo said the cases were taken over by members of the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Tzaneen for further investigations.

“The incidents were apparently committed in 2015 and 2019 when the pastor reportedly deceived the church goers to accompany him to the bushes where he would pray for them and bless them, but he instead raped them. Both women became pregnant and one has since given birth,” the statement reads.

Mojapelo added that the pastor was arrested on Wednesday, 10 June and is set to appear before the Lenyenye Magistrate’s Court today, 12 June on two counts of rape.

Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Jan Scheepers has condemned such behaviour in our communities, especially where women are victimised by people of faith.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
