Sassa card corruption: Limpopo businesswoman and boyfriend to apply for bail

The duo allegedly approached a Post Office employee and enticed him with about R60 000 in exchange for 250 SASSA beneficiary cards

LIMPOPO – A 29-year-old Limpopo businesswoman and her 34-year-old boyfriend made their first appearance, facing corruption charges in the Waterval Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The duo were arrested in Elim on Tuesday after allegedly approaching a Post Office employee and enticing him with around R60 000 in exchange for 250 SASSA beneficiary cards.

In a statement, the Hawks’ Provincial Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke, explained that the two were arrested shortly after they handed over their first instalment of R8 000 to the Post Office official.

“They were remanded in custody until 12 October for formal bail application,” Maluleke concluded.
