[INFOGRAPHIC] Limpopo’s dam levels show marginal drop despite recent rainfall

The provincial water storage level shows a steady increase week-on-week, despite a recorded drop in the water level of the majority of the dams in the province. See the dam levels as recorded on Tuesday 23 February, here: 

LIMPOPO – The Department of Water and Sanitation’s weekly report shows that the majority of Limpopo’s dams are now well over 100%. As of 23 February the provincial water storage in the province stands at 88.5% this week as compared to last week’s 86.4%. Last year this time the dam levels stood at 70.7%

According to the report, Ebenezer dam in Groot Letaba, which supplies majority of the communities around Polokwane, has seen an increase from 66.2% last week to 73.1% this week. This is an improvement compared to when it reached 25.1% last year at this time.

Flag Boshielo dam, is also at its full capacity recording 101.4% this week, albeit a decrease from last week’s 103.3%.

Dap Naude dam is at 105% and Tzaneen dam sits comfortably at 103.2% compared to last weeks 90.7%.

Doorndraai dam is at 34% a sharp increase from last weeks 30.9%., while Middle Letaba dam level is still critically low at 9.4%..

Despite these improvements in Limpopo’s water levels, the DWS still calls on water consumers in the province to continue using water sparingly as water remains a scarce resource.

The department also calls on farmers to be cautious when using water.
