Faulty street lights pose a real danger, say residents
A family in Serala View has complained over the lack of street lights in the area and believe they suffered a recent house break-in as a result.
They say that faulty lights have been an issue for a few months, and they have given up on reaching the municipality as they say the numbers go unanswered.
A resident who opted to stay anonymous says it is dangerous to take a walk in the evenings because of the lack of street lights.
“Winter is almost here, which means it will be getting darker earlier in the afternoons. It is not safe to be out in the streets anymore because one always stands a chance of getting mugged.

“When we try to call the switchboard we are kept on hold for hours, and the direct line always says that the person at the extension is not available.”
When Polokwane Observer went to Serala View, a number of street lights had visibly been tampered with while others were structurally defective.
Other areas in which faulty street lights seem to be prevalent, include Tamarisk Street in Flora Park, the R101 bridge next to Tom Naudé Technical High School, Magazyn Street between Van Boeschoten and Rissik streets. Some streets that have no lights in the evenings include Chameleon Street in Serala View, Gardinia Street in Flora Park, Webster Street between Marshall Street and Webster Street and Van Zyl Slabbert Street.
Municipal Communications Officer, Desiree Manyane says a team from the municipality has been sent to survey the area in Serala View and found that technical issues amounting to cable faults have caused damage to the line.
She says that the matter will be attended to in due time.
