Muni: Stoppage at plant ‘a setback to the progress that was being made to restore reservoir levels’
The recent stoppage at the Olifantspoort plant has once again left the majority of reservoirs in the city almost empty.
POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality has once again urged residents to use water sparingly to allow the water level of the city’s reservoirs to pick up.
On Thursday, Lepelle Northern Water stopped the Olifantspoort plant due to multiple leaks on the Specon pipeline. The repairs took around six hours to complete and after all the supply lines were filled the pumping of water to the city resumed.
According to a municipal statement issued on Friday morning, the stoppage negatively affected the reservoir/storage dam levels and as of 06:00 the Potgieter reservoir was at 0%, Krugerburg at 5% and Seshego at 5%.
“This is a major setback to the progress that was being made to restore the reservoir levels and the municipality are working together with LNW to resolve the current water issues,” reads the statement.
Meanwhile, the municipality’s water team is also attending to a pipe burst in the Mankweng area. The damaged pipe is between GaThoka reservoir and Paledi Mall and restoration time is estimated at six hours.
Water tankers will continue to provide relief to residents in all the affected areas.
