Water shortages continue as reservoir levels drop to below 5%

A recent stoppage at the Olifantspoort plant has once again left most of the city's reservoirs at 5% and lower, says the Polokwane Municipality.

POLOKWANE – A stoppage at the Olifantspoort plant yesterday has negatively affected the reservoir/storage dam levels and according to a statement issued by the municipality most reservoirs in the city are nearing empty.

As of 06:00 this morning, the Potgieter reservoir was at 0%, Krugerburg at 5% and Seshego at 5%.

On Thursday, Lepelle Northern Water stopped the Olifantspoort plant due to multiple leaks on the Specon pipeline. The repairs took around six hours to complete and after all the supply lines were filled the pumping of water to the city resumed.

“The stoppage is a major setback to the progress that was being made to restore the reservoir levels and the municipality are working together with LNW to resolve the current water issues,” reads the statement.

Water tankers will continue to provide relief to residents in all the affected areas.
