[LISTEN] Limpopo police arrest 1 796 suspects during latest clean-up operation
Of the suspects arrested were two men who have been linked to a series of robberies in Thohoyandou, says the police.
LIMPOPO – Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has praised the sterling work done by the men and women in blue during the latest simultaneous and parallel joint operations which were conducted throughout the province this past week.

In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says 1 796 suspects were arrested for various offences ranging from burglaries, business robberies, possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles, possession and dealing in drugs, possession of unlicensed firearms, Contravention of Disaster Management Act to Contravention of the Immigration Act.

In the Waterberg district, the police arrested a 51-year-old man on charges of carjacking, murder and business robbery. His arrest emanated form a carjacking and shooting incident in Tshwane. Ngoepe explained that the Tinmyne police received information about a stolen Ford Figo vehicle that was hijacked by three suspects and the driver shot and killed. The man was arrested during joint operation that was conducted by the police in Mokopane, the Crime Intelligence Unit, the Tinmyne police, Mahwelereng K9 Unit, Tracker SA and Tshwane Metro Police.
Meanwhile, in the Vhembe district, two men, aged 25 and 27, were arrested for a series of robberies in the Thohyandou area. In one of the incidents, thee men reportedly stormed a filling station and robbed them of an undisclosed amount of money., During the several employees were assaulted, one stabbed. A tactical joint operation conducted by Thohoyandou Crime intelligence Unit, Thohoyandou TRT and the Vhembe District Detectives was launched and the suspects were traced and arrested. “The suspects have been linked to seven cases of business and house robberies,” Ngoepe added.

The clean-up operation also led to the recovery of a vehicle which was linked to the farm attack incident in the Thabazimbi area.
The suspects, aged between 21 and 59, arrested during these operations are expected to appear before the relevant magistrate’s courts soon.
