Calm after protest action: Police will continue to monitor the area
Police will monitor the road intersections in Legae La Batho and Madibapark areas following protest action that erupted in the areas in the early hours of Thursday.
POLOKWANE – Residents burned tyres and barricaded the main roads leading to the areas (D19 road and parts of Nelson Mandela Drive )with stones and tree branches.
The residents were apparently reacting to consistent electricity cuts, water shortage and dilapidated roads that resulted from the previous rainfalls.
Provincial Police Spokesperson, Motlafela Mojapelo said the police are in the area to monitor the situation and ensure that one takes law into their own hands. “It is the democratic right for people to protest but by law no one is allowed to close or barricade roads. The police are there to ensure that no one takes law into their own hands.”

“Marabe Street along Madiba Park and Ext 76 is also affected between Nelson Mandela Drive and Matlala Road,” says Polokwane Municipality Spokesperson, Thipa Selala.
Law enforcement officers and the police are on the scene.
