Thoriso Kgomo’s murderer sentenced to 17 years in jail

Dimakatso Mochemi was on trial for rape, kidnapping and murder.

Dimakatso Mochemi was this week sentenced in the Limpopo High Court to 17 years’ imprisonment for the murder of Thorisho Kgomo.

Mochemi was on trial for rape, kidnapping and murder.

National Prosecuting Authority Spokesperson for Limpopo, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said the murder occurred while Mochemi was out on bail.

He stabbed Kgomo at a party at Kings Shopping Complex in Seshego on 1 January 2020.

The court heard that Kgomo was stabbed because he had taken Mochemi’s cap.

Kgomo later in hospital succumbed to his injuries.

Mochemi pleaded not guilty to the charge and said he was defending himself as Kgomo, with a knife in his hand, had apparently threatened him.

He was acquitted on the rape and kidnapping charges.

The Seshego Community Against Drugs and Gangsterism has shown their dissatisfaction over the sentencing.

The Spokesperson for the organisation, Vincent Kunutu ws of the opinion that Mochemi should have received a life sentence.
