Cyclist killed in collision on R81 just outside Polokwane

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

POLOKWANE – A cyclist, believed to be in his 40s, was killed when he was knocked over on the R81 just outside Polokwane this morning.

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 Communications Officer, the incident happened approximately 30km outside the city.

“ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 06:25, and other emergency services were already in attendance. A bakkie was found parked on the side of the road while the cyclist was found lying in the middle of the road,” he explained.

Meiring said medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous fatal injuries.

“Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead by another service. The driver of the bakkie escaped injury,” he added.

Meiring said local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

Review contacted the Transport Department’s Media Liaison Officer, Mike Maringa, who said he was waiting a formal report.
