All on track for low income rental in Ladanna

Approval for applications for the low cost housing project currently undertaken in Ladanna, is well underway.

Shimi Maimela, the CEO of the Thabatshweu Housing Company, the company responsible for the development, confirmed that, after due processes were followed, they have received around 650 applicants who all qualified through the means test they use.

“The means test is based on the criteria we use, which is that applicants should be earning between R1 500 and R15 000, have a clean credit record and reside in the Polokwane area.”

Maimela says they have not been able to process all the applications yet but to date, 193 applications have been approved while another 200 are in the process of evaluation.

“If everything goes according to plan we should be done evaluating all the applications by the end of April and those who have been successful will be notified. During the first phase around 162 applicants will be allocated and the bulk of the allocation will be in the second phase which should be towards the end of May.”

The rental apartments include bachelor, one and two bedroom flats with a rental price starting from just over R1 500.

Maimela added that the original building plans were changed as they picked up that demand for one and two bedroom apartments seemed to pick up.

“Since we had to many applications for one-bedroom apartments, we realised there is huge demand in this area and therefore, we will try to accommodate as many people as we can.”

She says applications will open for the second phase and will be announced through the usual platforms.
