Heavy delays as N1 is backed-up due to multi-vehicle collision

The department has urged motorists to use alternatives routes.

POLOKWANE – The Transport Department’s Media Liaison Officer, Mike Maringa, has urged motorists who are travelling on the N1, to make use of the R101 instead.

Maringa, in a statement, sent out the warning as he cited a multi-vehicle crash near the Mookgophong off-ramp as the cause of heavy delays.

Maringa told Review that the warning is for motorists on both the N1 south and north.

According to Bakwena Platinum, lane 5 at the Carousel Plaza on the N1 south, was closed earlier due to a broken down vehicle.

The lane has since been opened, according to a Tweet by the toll operator.

Meanwhile, Rob Beezy on Twitter, noted heavy traffic approaching the Pumulani plaza, from both directions.

Traffic at the Nyl Plaza is also reportedly backed up in both directions.

Maringa said details on the multi-vehicle collision is unclear at this stage, however, he told Review: “Still waiting for information, but it involves a taxi. Seven people sustained injuries, and no Fatalities were recorded”.
