#TshepoRakoma: Murder accused makes first appearance

Tshepo Rakoma (32) was found dead in her car following a shooting incident in the Polokwane CBD last Thursday.

POLOKWANE – Gender-based violence was once again under the spotlight, where 34-year-old Kibi Josias Lebogo appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court this afternoon.

Lebogo is charged with the murder of Tshepo Rakoma (32), and made his first court appearance today following the tragic incident on Thursday, 6 May, in the Polokwane CBD.

Rakoma was found dead after a shooting incident in the parking garage on the corner of Grobler and Landdros Maré streets.

In a statement issued late Thursday evening, the police confirmed one person was shot and killed during the incident, not two people as previously stated by authorities who were on the scene of the crime.

“It is alleged an argument ensued between the man and woman, whereby he produced a firearm and shot her several times. She died instantly,” Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said previously.

The police arrested Lebogo on the scene after he threatened to jump from the roof of the parking garage.

According to the Director of Public Prosecutions’ Regional Spokesperson, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, he faces charges of murder, as well as the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

“The matter was postponed to 18 May for further investigation and bail application,” she added.
