Limpopo court jails man who raped mentally-challenged woman
The convicted felon had forced the woman to his place of residence where he assaulted then raped her, says the police.
LIMPOPO – A 39-year-old man found guilty of the rape of young mentally-challenged woman was sentenced by the Morebeng Regional Court to a life imprisonment term.
The accused, Elphias Ditshego Mudau attacked the 29-year-old woman on 2 February 2017 in Phooko village in the Sekgosese policing area. Police reports indicate that Mudau accosted the woman in the street and forced her to his place of residence where he assaulted and then raped her. He released after he was done.
Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Mamphaswa Seabi said the victim sustained injuries to her face during the ordeal and upon arrival at home her mother noticed these injuries and questioned her. “She then narrated the ordeal to her mother who immediately contacted the police and opened a case of rape.”

Seabi said the case was transferred to Giyani Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences ( FCS) Unit and the docket was allocated to Const Vutomi Precious Maluleka for further police investigations. “Consequent to the thorough investigation and professionalism by this detective, the accused was arrested and positively linked to the crime through forensic evidence” Seabi added.
Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Thembi Hadebe commended the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit particularly the investigating officer, for the meticulous work. She reiterated that the police will continue to work hard to ensure that perpetrators of gender-based violence face the full might of the law.
