Mbilwi: Teacher back in court on Thursday

The 50-year-old teacher was arrested for the rape of a learner (17).

LIMPOPO – The 50-year-old teacher of Mbilwi Secondary School, who faces three counts of rape, is set to appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court again on Thursday, 27 May.

The teacher was arrested at the school on Friday, 14 May.

“It is alleged that the suspect raped the victim, who was in Gr 12 at the time, on several occasions during 2018. In one of the incidents, he reportedly offered to assist her with extra lessons but instead took her to a lodge where he raped her. He thereafter threatened the child and offered her money to stay silent,” Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo explained.

The teacher made his first appearance in the same court on Monday, 17 May, and the case was then postponed to 24 May for formal bail application.

He made his second appearance yesterday, and the case was postponed to today, according to a statement by Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“He appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court today and his case was postponed until Thursday, 27 May, for formal bail application and further police investigations. The teacher was remanded in custody,” Ngoepe added.
