Limpopo cops bust business robbers recover handmade guns
The suspects were nabbed shortly after a business robbery at a liquor outlet, says the police.
LIMPOPO – The police in Roossenekal outside Groblersdal arrested four men following an armed robbery at a liquor outlet in the area.
The incident happened on Friday, 28 May and the men, aged between 23 and 28, were during a joint police operation conducted by members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol (LHP), Roossenekal detectives and crime prevention units.
Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the men were found in the possession of four firearms, including two self-made short guns and twenty six rounds of ammunition.
“The suspects will appear in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 31 May on charges related to business robbery and possession of homemade firearm,” he added.
The four men were among 878 suspects arrested during the police operations which were conducted across the province from Saturday, 22 May until the early hours of this morning.

During these operations the police confiscated a total of 617 064 sticks of illicit cigarettes, five dangerous weapons, 36 249 grams of dagga, 14 grams of Nyaope, 11 firearms, 1 696 342ml of liquor, 17 knives and recovered five stolen vehicles.
“The police attended to 253 incidents of domestic violence and served a total of 223 protection orders during the same period,” Mojapelo said.
He added that in an effort to deal with factors that often contribute to contact crimes, the police also conducted compliance inspections at 3021 liquor premises and 51 were dealt under the Liquor Control Act.
The arrested suspects will appear in different magistrate courts around the province.
Provincial Police Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Province, Lt Genl Thembi Hadebe commended the members for swiftly responding to the information provided and arresting the suspects. She also thanked the communities for continuously assisting the police in the fight against crime.
The next phase of these continuous operations have already begun.
