Muyanalo urgently needs your help to get vital operation
Muyanalo Margret Nemutamvuni's health is deteriorating quickly and she needs to raise a further R200 000 to pay for a vital operation. She pleads to the community for help.
LIMPOPO – Having been on a waiting list since 2019 and her health deteriorating quickly, a mother of two from Tshino village in Vuwani had no other choice but to seek help from outside South Africa.
Muyanalo Margret Nemutamvuni was diagnosed with lupus interstitial lung disease, pulmonary arterial hypertension and acute reflux in May 2016. She has to undergo a double lung transplant, however her chances are slim as there is a waiting list.
The transplant is only done at Grootte Schuur Hospital in Cape Town and the Netcare Heart Hospital in Johannesburg.
The 54-year-old, who is a former director in the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, is currently dependent on an oxygen tank to help her breathe, and a wheelchair to move around.
Shoni Nekhavhambe, the spokesperson for the Nemutamvuni family said life has been devastating for the family after Nemutamvuni’s diagnosis.
In the hope to get her transplant done, Nemutamvuni went to the Krishna Institute of Medical Science, a private hospital in Hyderabad in India, in May this year.
The cost of the transplant at this institution is at an estimated R1,5 million, and Nemutamvuni is short of R200 000.
She now pleads with the community to assist her, as this is her only chance at survival.
The hospital will only do the surgery once she has the full amount paid.
“I have been listed for the lung transplant here in India, but the hospital wants full payment before the transplant is done.
“I am running short of R200 000 as my budget for the transplant was negatively affected by the oxygen crisis in India. Now my only hope is that my fellow South African brothers and sisters, will come to my rescue and help me raise the remaining money, as I currently don’t have other options. My medical aid is not funding the transplant because it is performed outside the country,” Nemutamvuni explained.
