Everjoy brings joy to everyone

With a name like Everjoy Mutema, she is sure to spread joy wherever she goes.

Everjoy is a social worker at the Association for Persons with Disabilities (APD) where she started working in 2019.

“I am actually from Zimbabwe and came to South Africa to get my degree in social work at the University of Limpopo. I obtained my bachelor of social work and returned to Zimbabwe, but after a while I returned to the university to assist the disabled people.”

Everjoy’s work entails to provide a service to others. She currently provides counselling and psycho social support to the residents and day workers at APD Limpopo.

“I also help to link resources and outsource services. To succeed in my job, I need passion. I love helping others, serving them and providing comfort. At times my job becomes challenging, as it is not always possible to assist everyone at the same time, and people do not always understand the words ‘wait,’ ‘later’ or ‘no.’”

She further explains that a social worker needs to be non-judgmental, no matter what the situation.

“You also need to be open minded as you are involved in all kinds of situations. I always saw myself as someone who helps other people and that is why I felt being a social worker is the best option for me to fulfill my dreams.”
