Residents have their say: Local election in February 2022
We asked Polokwane residents if they will be registering to vote as the online voter registration opened on July 14, and what changes they would like to see:
POLOKWANE -The 2021 local election that was set to take place on 27 October, was postponed to February 2022 after the former deputy chief justice, Dikgang Moseneke handed over a final report to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on the findings into the practicality of holding free and fair elections amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Moseneke recommended that local government election be moved to February 2022 due to the threat posed by Covid-19 and the current restrictions on political activity.
We asked Polokwane residents if they will be registering to vote as the online voter registration opened on July 14, and what changes they would like to see:
I am definitely going to vote, as well as my husband. I want better infrastructure, as everything is falling apart. Safe parks for our children will be excellent. Working street lights, clean paths and streets without potholes. And of course Polokwane’s biggest problem is no water.
I will definitely be voting. From the day I could vote I marked my ‘x’. It wasn’t always easy and it didn’t always immediately make the difference I hoped for, but I voted because my voice is not just a drop of water in a bucket. It’s a drop that causes a ripple which has the power to start a mighty stream. Too many people share their opinions or subjective preferences on social media, complain and moan and make noise, but don’t use the system that is already in place to bring change. We need less opinions and more people who will stand in rows, even if it is uncomfortable, to vote even if it is not always clear for who. I vote because my vote makes a difference!
I’ll vote, for sure. My voice is my right to insist on service delivery. Those who are not going to vote accept the status quo, and have no right to complain. My vote goes for a party that has already proven they do more than just speak. They don’t make empty promises, or use their stand in the council for personal gain. I expect members elected to the council to serve to the community.
Yes and I would like a lower tariff in electricity bills, better roads, and more control on the selling of alcohol. Road infrastructure and and safety in our areas is also a priority.
Yes I will vote. Polokwane has so much history and I hope they will look better after our historic sites and buildings. I hope for safe and well-kept parks for the children.
