POLOKWANE – A statement by municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala indicates that the current prepaid meter audits are part of the Prepaid Meter Token Identifier (TID) rollover.

“During August, the audits will be conducted in Flora Park, Fauna Park, Bendor and Polokwane Extension 71. The municipality appeals for cooperation and patience from all customers during the process to upgrade their electricity and water prepaid meters,” Selala explained.

He added that their members (pictured below) will wear branded Polokwane Municipality reflector bibs and will be in possession of a municipal identification card.

Meanwhile, municipal manager Dikgape Makobe notified residents that the municipality intends on implementing a table of estimations where no actual meter readings were obtained due to inaccessible meters on properties.

“Notice is given in terms of provisions of Section 75A of the Local Government Municipal Systems Act 32 of 2000. Council resolved, during council meeting of October 2020 (CR42/10/20), to curb estimations that cannot be backed by reasonable data to ensure accurate meter readings are billed on monthly accounts (CR42/10/20),” he explained.

Makobe said residents and interested parties are urged to submit inputs and comments on the resolution to simons@polokwane.gov.za on/or before November 4.

“Meter readings can be submitted to meterreading@polokwane.gov.za to avoid your meter being estimated while faulty meters can be reported to the call centre at 087 350 2770. Persons who cannot read or write will, during office hours, be assisted to transcribe their comments or representations,” he concluded.
