Help local students study in Taiwan

POLOKWANE – Kholofelo Seduma and Selokela Lebogo have been accepted to study at the department of post-modern agriculture at Mingdao University.

They have until September to raise R300 000 each to cover their expenses for the first year.

“The amount will cover the flights, student visa, accommodation and enrolment. I would really like to be able to go to Mingdao University,” Seduma explained.

He boasts a BA degree in translation studies and linguistics and was raised by a single mother who is a domestic worker.

“Growing up, I almost fell into bad habits but with the help of my grandmother, who basically raised me when my mother was away at work, I managed to turn my life around. I would have ended up in jail or dead if it wasn’t for her,” he explained.

Seduma’s life mission now is to make them proud and give them a better life.

Lebogo, who holds a diploma in international tourism, said they applied for scholarships without any success.

“We just need to get there and cover the first year. We will also work hard to make sure that we get scholarships for the next year,” she said.

The duo plan to come back to South Africa after they completed their studies to create employment with the skills they would have acquired in Taiwan.

“I believe that if we can get there, we can also be able to assist others from the country who would want to apply that side. We will be in a better position to simplify the process for others,” she said. They added that they refuse to give up. If they are unable to succeed in raising the money this year, they will try again next year.
