POLOKWANE – Two locals bring a taste of the world to your doorstep.
Raiyan Chetty, a chef who has worked abroad, and Tiro Setati, an engineer, were brought together into business by their common love for good food.
They founded The Fry Guys which is a marriage of tastes from around the world in a cloud kitchen.
The idea for the business came up in a conversation about cloud kitchens, which are big in the United States and Europe. These are restaurants with no physical space, they accept delivery or collection orders without a traditional restaurant or dine-in facility.
“A cloud kitchen is a great concept and we decided to put it into place and to test the market. On my off days, I used to sell chicken wings. For the first three months, I experimented with different flavours and gauged the response. The feedback was great and people enjoyed the product,” Chetty explained.
Chetty took the bold step and left his job to pursue the business full-time. He shared that although the start to their business was a bit shaky, they are finding their feet and there is a lot of potential for growth.
“Food is something that I have always loved. It was because of this that I decided to be a chef,” Chetty added.
The business is located in Bendor but there has been a demand in areas like Mankweng and Seshego.
The demand has influenced their plan for growth and they want to extend their reach.
“We want to move the business to a more centralised location. Eventually we want our food to be available on third party apps like Mr Delivery. We would also like to start another kitchen in another area. Once it’s fully established in Polokwane, we will look to expand into Gauteng,” he said.
