Transport MEC sends condolences to families of road crash victims

Five people died in a head-on collision in Sekhukhune district on Saturday evening.

LIMPOPO – The Transport and Community Safety MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, has sent messages of condolences to the families of five people who died in a head-on collision on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred at Maleoskop on Wagendrift road near Blue Ridge mine in the Sekhukhune district and involved two bakkies.

“Its alleged one driver lost control of the vehicle along a sharp curve and collided head-on with the second vehicle. Bother drivers died on impact,” Transport media liaison officer Mike Maringa said.

He added that three occupants from the second vehicle died on the scene.

“Preliminary investigations are cited fatigue as the possible cause of the incident.”
 
Maringa added that the MEC is concerned that reckless driving and speeding continues to be the leading cause of fatal accidents, especially over weekends.

She called on motorists to be wary of their speed.
