APD residents celebrate Casual Day

Residents at the Association for People with Disabilities (APD) celebrated Casual Day with music, fun games and dance on September 3.

POLOKWANE – Margaret Mlatji, fundraiser coordinator for APD Limpopo said the day was also aimed at raising money for the centre as well as creating a stage for residents to enjoy themselves.

“Fun events are scarce these days given the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We just wanted them to get out of their rooms and enjoy some fun activities.

“With regard to money raised on the day, Malatji said their target was R200 000.

“We didn’t even reach a quarter of the amount and we are still appealing to residents to contribute by buying Casual Day stickers for R20 at the centre.”

He added that the sticker allows them to express their individual interpretation of the yearly theme through their outfits, showing their support for the full inclusion and equity of persons with disabilities.

“All the proceeds will go to the development of the centre and help those who are struggling to pay their monthly accommodation fees,” Malatji said.
