Wall collapse kills four wedding attendees

Limpopo police say people in attendance reportedly sat inside a tent that was joined to an unroofed building.

LIMPOPO – Four people died after a wall collapsed on them at a wedding ceremony, yesterday (October 2).

Police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the police in Lebowakgomo are investigating a case of inquest as a result.

“A wall reportedly collapsed on the deceased at a wedding in GA-Chuene, Thogwaneng,” he explained.

Mojapelo said people in attendance sat inside a tent that was joined to an unroofed building.

“Strong winds blew up the tent and in the process, the wall collapsed, instantly killing three people and injuring scores others,” he added.

Twelve people were seriously injured and taken to hospital.

“One of them succumbed to their injuries in hospital, bringing the total number of deceased to four,” Mojapelo said and added that the process of identifying the deceased has begun.

“Their identities will be revealed after the next-of-kin have been informed. Police investigations are continuing,” he concluded.
